This project explores attitudes, motivations and barriers to engagement in learning, skills and employment among disadvantaged groups and communities.
The project consisted of a two stage process:
Firstly, Jobcentre Plus conducted a survey of more than 800 claimants and explored their aspirations, barriers, motivations and triggers for accessing work and learning. The findings of this survey are available in the Jobcentre Plus Survey Report.
Secondly, in-depth research with key groups and communities looked at what the key barriers to engagement are and how they might be overcome.
Key stakeholders were also interviewed to elicit their views on issues for particular communities of interest.
The findings were presented in a full report (PDF, 532KB), along with more detailed reports of the focus group work (PDF, 628KB) and the Jobcentre Plus Survey (PDF, 626KB).
An Executive Summary (PDF, 195KB) is also available.
