About the West Midlands Regional Observatory

Download Annual Review 2006-07 (PDF, 1 MB)The West Midlands Regional Observatory has been a key source of regional intelligence since 2002.

We are responsible for helping the region to develop better access to well organised information. We do this to improve the quality of strategy and policy making so that the region can better inform the provision of services.

We are based in central Birmingham at Millennium Point and continue to grow our capability and extend our service provision, so that we are well positioned to meet all of the data and intelligence needs of our partners.

Headed by the Chief Executive Rosie Paskins, we cover three key areas:

Research

The research teams deliver the State of the Region report, monitor the progress that regional strategies are making, and support partners in meeting their data and intelligence needs.

This includes the coordination of the evidence base to support the work of the Regional Skills Partnership, a mix of employers, skills providers and other public bodies who take the lead on the regional skills agenda.

Regional Data and Intelligence Network

The Regional Data and Intelligence Network is a community of data and intelligence users across all sectors within the West Midlands.

The Network is our main focal point for communicating with the West Midlands region. Through this Network, we are able to ensure that we can respond appropriately to the needs of the region.

Web and Data

The Web and Data team is responsible for delivery of data and intelligence to the region, through the maintenance of this website. The team ensures that the body of knowledge that is available within the region is sought out and made available to a wider audience.
