Worklessness: key figures

These key charts on worklessness in the West Midlands are based on data available up to 2008 and the following definition of worklessness used in our economic inclusion research work:

…the proportion of the working age population who are not employed. This includes people who are unemployed and people who are economically inactive, for example, people who are sick/​disabled, students, people looking after the family and home, and retired people. This definition can be understood as the inverse of the employment rate.
