These key charts on worklessness in the West Midlands are based on data available up to 2008 and the following definition of worklessness used in our economic inclusion research work:
…the proportion of the working age population who are not employed. This includes people who are unemployed and people who are economically inactive, for example, people who are sick/disabled, students, people looking after the family and home, and retired people. This definition can be understood as the inverse of the employment rate.
