Summary

The 25th of November marks the UN designated Elimination of Violence against Women Day. Supported by key national agencies in the field, Ashram and the University of Wolverhampton will jointly host the Moving Forward conference to be held on this day.

This is a pioneering national conference focused on specifically addressing the provision of culturally competent domestic violence services across the country.

Research shows that whilst the prevalence of domestic violence is similar across communities, women from ethnic minority backgrounds are less likely to access services and then struggle with the services they do receive when they seek help. Against these facts, the need for more culturally competent services has human rights and community cohesion implications. The barriers to culturally competent services are wide ranging and key areas will be explored in detail by individuals who are leaders in their field.

You will have the unique opportunity to hear from a range of high profile, key note speakers including:

Rt Hon Margaret Moran MP
Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence

Nicki Norman
Deputy Chief Executive, Women’s Aid England

Ceri Hayes
Head of Policy and Advocacy, Womankind Worldwide
